Experience Summer in the Village
Step back in time this summer and experience 19th-century village life, where history comes alive through authentic characters, farm animals, and daily rural life.
Meet our volunteer interpreters in the gardens, workshops, and kitchens. Join a guided morning walk as our farmers introduce you to the farm animals and invite you to help with the morning feeding (only in danish) or take a ride in a horse-drawn carriage, and gain a unique insight into everyday rural life in the 19th century.
This summer’s activities are rooted in the lives and values of the past while exploring questions that remain relevant today. How do we care for nature? What can we learn from previous generations about using resources wisely?
A special theme this summer is the soil beneath our feet and its role in the garden and the fields. In August, you can join us for the harvest and celebrate the grain that sustained generations at our annual Grain Day.

Every day throughout the summer holidays, children can get creative from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM by making seed bombs for nature, crafting their own miniature bricks, and exploring colours made from natural earth pigments. Fun, hands-on activities that bring together play, learning, and a connection to nature.
Join the village farmer every day during the summer holidays for a morning walk to visit and feed some of the farm animals. We will meet at the flagpole at 10:30 AM.
Learn more about the soil we all depend on—and live from. Visit the exhibition Soil Is Life (House No. 6), or follow the Soil Trail through the village. The trail features 10 stops where you can discover more about soil and our relationship with it, both in the past and today.
Explore The Funen Village by horse-drawn carriage. Sit back and enjoy the ride while the coachman brings the village to life with stories about its history, historic houses, farmsteads, and animals.
From 3–8 August, the grain will be harvested in the fields of The Funen Village—weather permitting, of course! Experience traditional harvesting methods in action, including the use of sickles, scythes, and a horse-drawn binder.
