Meet Them
On selected days during the season, you can meet them as Living History participants at The Funen Village.

Volunteers dressed in historical costumes demonstrate how people lived and worked on the land 200 years ago. They are also happy to inspire you on how to get started with handicrafts, traditional crafts, or gardening at home.
Check the calendar to see when you can meet them.
Become a Volunteer
Do you want to help tell stories about history and sustainability to thousands of visitors each year?
Do you want to be part of a large social community interested in making history relevant today?
And do you have the desire and skills to work practically with crafts, cooking, handicrafts, or similar activities?
Currently, we are especially seeking volunteers to work with and share knowledge about:
- Building maintenance
- Gardens and fields
- Historical food
- Beer brewing
- Flax processing
- Woodwork and weaving
- Bees (require specific prior knowledge)
As a volunteer at The Funen Village, you will meet many new people, have the opportunity to share history, and help make the future greener by connecting it to our shared past.
As a volunteer, you often wear period-appropriate clothing, but you are not acting in a theatrical role.
Instead, you engage with visitors in conversation about how history can inspire modern life.
Volunteers also help run activities for children and adults during holidays and weekends.
- You must be present at the Village for at least eight opening days per season (mainly weekends, school holidays, or selected weekdays from April to December).
- You must attend the annual general information meeting and your group’s start-up and evaluation meetings.
- You should be eager to communicate sustainability, community, and circular living.
- You should master (or be willing to quickly learn) the craft or work you signed up for.
- You should be willing to contribute to the committed community of volunteers at The Funen Village.
- Minimum age: 16 years.
If you are interested in volunteering at The Funen Village, contact volunteer coordinator Dyveke Skov Larsen at dysla@odense.dk.
Include a brief introduction about yourself, your motivation for volunteering, and what skills or contributions you can offer.
Most new volunteers are recruited in the spring. In the fall, you can join the waiting list for the following season.
We look forward to hearing from you!
